About R K Narayan
R.K. Narayan (1906 - 2001) was a leading author of early Indian literature in English along with Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao. In his works, he highlights the social context and everyday life of his characters. Narayan has often been compared to Guy de Mauoassant because of his ability to compress a narrative, and to William Faulker for exploring the energy of ordinary life with humour and compasssion. His most popular works include the Shaitya Akademi Award-winning novel The Guide, The Financial Expert, The English Teacher, The Bachelor of Arts and the widely acclaimed Swami and Friends.
