Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen
In Marvel Studio's much-awaited Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Stephen strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) meets America Chavez (played by Xochiti Gomez), a young woman who can travel across the multiverse. Strange approaches old friend Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to help protect Chavez, but soon realises that Maximoff has her own plans.
Being a Doctor Strange film, the viewers get to see known characters like Wong (Benedict Wong)an Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) again. There is also a host of cameos from other stars, most of them quite delightful. However, the idea of the multiverse- parallel universes with similarities and dissimilarities between them− could have been used more fully and entertainingly. The brief part where Strange and Chavez rush through a universe made of paint, for example, felt like a missed opportunity to have some fun with this concept.
There are, as expected, several larger-than-life action scenes (one fight takes place to the beats of western classical music) and some witty dialogues ('Illumi-what-i?').So Marvel fans may find plenty to enjoy. The typical additional scene after the end credits is there as well. However, there remains a feeling that a film where the proud and sarcastic Dr Strange flies around different universes should have been even more entertaining.
