Ruskin Bond (1934-) was born in Kasauli, British India. He went to Bishop Cotton School in Shimla. His first novel, Room on the Roof, won him the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhyes prize in 1957.
Ruskin Bond is the most popular author of children's literature in India today. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of short stories, Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, in 1992. For his service to English Literature, he was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2004.
He lives with his adopted family in Landour, Mussoorie.
