About Victor Hugo

Victor Hugo was a French poet and a novelist who after training as a lawyer, embarked on the literary career. He became one of the most important French romantic poets, a novelist and dramatist of his time.

He was born on 26th February, 1802 and died on May 22nd, 1885 in Paris.

Among his best known works are - 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' (1831) and 'Les Miserables' (1862). The story 'Les Miserables' is a story of many different characters and he took fifteen years to write it. The interesting fact is that, a number of years he took to write. The novel contains 365 chapters and 1400 pages long and the original French version has 1900 pages. It is considered to be one of the longest novel in the history of literature.
