Organizational stress is considered an important area in organizational psychology and behavioral science. The emanating concerns on the physiological, psychological and behavioral health on the individual and the organizations have been widely recognized. Over the years the emphasis of stress has been more one-sided on the dysfunctional aspects, more so that stress has become synonym to distress. Hans Selye, 'The Father of Modern stress' recognized two aspects to stress - negative stress as 'Distress' and positive stress as ' Eustress' but stress research has predominantly accentuated only on Dis(stress), stress manifestations, consequences and its management. The new wave of positive psychology as proposed by Martin Seligman and Csikszentmihalyi, 2000, and thereafter its application to workplace as positive organizational behavior- POB, Luthans, 2002 sparked the positive movement in the industrial psychology and health concerns highlighting human strengths, organizational potential and well-being for holistic prospective. 

This book diverts itself in investigating a more positive side of stress- 'Eustress' vi | Indian Banking Industry and ‘Eustress’ The prefix 'Eu' to stress is for 'good' or 'well' which indicates that some stress is actually good for us. Eustress is the psychological response to a stressor that is interpreted as having positive implications for well-being. It is a kind of pressure that gets a person motivated to accomplish something or that leads to an act of fulfillment. The study intends to dwell upon the issues through eustress that can facilitate in the creation of healthy, constructive and developmental environment wherein both the individual and the organization need to re-orient their attention and attitudes. It attempts to demystify the impact of eutsress on bank executives and help to understand the different variables that trigger stress and how can they be countered through eustress For the purpose it aims to examine the extent to which the three antecedent independent variables - organizational culture, locus of control and self-efficacy develop and sustain eustress level among executives in the public and private sector banks and their likely impact on the outcome variable in the form of individual health and organizational well-being.
