It may be the most important meal of the day
But I'm just NOT having breakfast! No way!
I can't eat the same thing every day any more!
I hate breakfast! Breakfast's a bore!
My mother smiled and said, 'Well dear,
You need to know more about breakfast, it's clear.
So why don't you travel around the world and see
What  you would like your breakfast too be?'
So I packed my trunk and prepared for a feast!
I thought I would start in Japan, in the East,
I went there one morning and it was so nice...
I had miso soup and hot, streaming  rice.
I went to India next, and in Mumbai
There was so much  colour I shut one eye!
There were so many different kinds of Indian food!
I chose idli and chutney, and it was very good...
I traveled up the sea to Turkey's shore
I'd had many breakfasts, but I wanted more!
Feta cheese, olives and white bread I gobbled up
And drank hot apple tea in a special cup.
I packed my bags and went to France
(Wouldn't you if you had the chance?)
I ate a fresh, hot croissant with butter and jam
And drank hot chocolate how lucky I am!
I crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a ship
And went to Jamaica, licking my lips!
Eggs, tomatoes and flying fish for me
With toast and jam and caribbean coffee!
Who knew breakfast could be such a lovely treat?
As I went to Mexico I thought, what will I eat/
it was easy! Eggs with corn tortillas of course,
With beans in delicious spicy tomato sauce.
I stopped by in the US for a cereal treat
And waffles and maple syrup, warm and sweet.
How could I have not liked breakfast, I wonder.
Which one's the best, I plod  as I ponder.
And thought all the way from Rio to Rome
And then i thought I miss the breakfast at home!
It's great to travel and eat what you find
But the very best food is what you leave behind!
So I ran home to mother, who already knew
What I'd want for breakfast you should try it too!
Grass, mangoes, leaves and bark from a young tree,
Is the best food for a growing elephant like me!

Do you agree with the sentiment that 'the very best food is what you leave behind'?
What does his mother tell him to do?
If you had to choose one of the places mentioned to visit, which one would you choose and why?
What ways is food a part of the culture of a place?
