This is the story of a boy called Kapila. He lost his parents at a very young age. When he was slightly older, he went to work with a farmer. Kapila's job was to look after the farmer's cows. The farmer had a son named Kasia who was the same age as Kapila The two boys soon became the best of friends.
The duo would start from home early in the morning. The whole day they would tend the cattle and return home in the evening. In the afternoon, they would have their lunch under the shade of a tree. During the day Kapila would often play the flute for his friend, Kasia. The melodious notes emanating from Kapila's flute not only enchanted Kasia but also held the birds and animals in the vicinity, spellbound.
One day, in the afternoon, Kapila started feeling drowsy. He told his friend "Kasia, I am feeling very sleepy. I'll lie down in the shade of the banyan tree and sleep for a while. Can you please look after the cows?"
Kasia nodded and went along with the cows as they grazed around leisurely.
An hour later, Kasia decided to return and wake up his friend. As he neared the banyan tree, he suddenly stopped and stood rooted to the spot. The scene that he was witnessing, sent a cold shiver down his spine. A large cobra had spread its hood and was protecting Kapila from the harsh rays of the sun.
