Rabindranath Tagore was a great poet of India who wrote both in Bengali, which was his mother tongue, and in English. He won international fame for his book of poems called 'Gitanjali' which won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
This poem is a profound prayer to God as well as a thought-provoking list of the heavenly qualities of man.
What are the different qualities of the 'heaven of freedom' which the speaker prays for? Mention four.
What is like a clear stream?
What is like a dreary desert?
What happens to a clear stream when it runs into a desert?
What tends to weaken and destroy our reasoning ability?
Is 'the heaven of freedom' a place to rest from effort or is it a place of continuous (tireless) effort? Effort to achieve what?
