Tagore's Last Poems - Translated by Jaydev Bhukta
Admitting that songs are untranslatable, the translator has attempted in this selection from Tagore's vast storehouse of songs, to give the feel of the poetry inalienable from Tagore songs. The schoolers are unanimous in their praise for the translations notable for their simplicity and sincerity of tones.
This tiny book of translation gives an impression of the final realization of Tagore (as a man and as a poet) as revealed in his very last poems, some composed orally in his death bed. An important feature of this book is that the translator has chosen poems that will not appear too distant for foreign readers to appreciate their spirit, but has been faithful all through to the original images so that they do not distort the meaning of the original.
