On 17 June 2016, Modi government called a report from the Law Commission on the issue of uniform Civil Code. In pursuance of this very initiative, the Law Commission, in the chairmanship of Justice Dr B.S. Chauhan, instead of giving report on Uniform Civil Code, made Consultation Paper dated 31 August, 2018 to reform the different religion based family laws.

The Consultation Paper of Law Commission has been prepared in 5 chapters and 182 pages. In its first chapter - 'Introduction', the Commission concluded that at present making of Uniform Civil Code is neither necessary nor desirable for the nation.

To reach on the aforesaid conclusion, the Law Commission has made an effort to collect all those things, which may go against the Uniform Civil Code. And surprisingly Dr. Chauhan Commission not only went to make an unnecessary and unjustified remarks to the Supreme Court's decision passed in Shahbano's Case but went to the extent to question on validity of the existence of the Constituent Assembly.

If we be able to understand the reality of all these negative things discussed by the Law Commission and get solution of the same, then the path to make the Uniform Civil Code will become more easy. From this perspective, it is necessary to do an analytical study of the opinion given and conclusion drawn by the Commission in its Consultation Paper. Such an effort is being made through this research book.
